<3 nice! which wallet was timing out?
I hear your point, and I think the principle is correct: we shouldnāt collect information unless we have a real need for it. Thatās a principle we try to follow. Where this becomes different for us is when user funds are involved. If you fund anonymously, we let you do that, and the responsibility to keep track of refunds is more on you. But if youāre a logged-in Geyser user, we feel responsible for being able to notify you if something important happens to your funds, like a failed contribution or a refund you need to claim. That becomes even more important with All-or-Nothing campaigns, where you might need to claim a refund weeks later and could easily forget. So from our side, required email is about having a reliable fallback for important payment/account notifications. That said, I understand why the hard gate feels wrong from a Nostr/minimal-data perspective. And we do care - thatās why Iām having this conversation and taking the pushback seriously.
Let's go paco!! Awesome work - you guys are true champions!
Yes! The swap lighting to rootstock via boltz
Hey Lassdas, I can appreciate where you're coming from. You want to fund in your own terms. And we didn't consider that some users might really not want to add their email. As mentioned before, it can be useful for things like Project Updates (if you follow projects) and getting Geyser nerwsletter (only if you actively subscribe). But it does becomes quite important when contributions do not go through - you will receive an email if a contribution fails by email. It may take up to 2 minutes to get a payment confirmation to the Boltz Swap) and users might leave the browser and may not realize that contribution failed. In this case they'll get an email that a contribution has failed and that they need to claim refund. This is the first pushback we received about this, and we're open to revisit it. But right now i dont really see a strong reason not to ask for email. If you're into privacy there are all sorts of ways to maintain privacy with email. Thanks for engaging in the conversation - all in all, I agree that when it comes to Nostr asking for an email could seem strange, but it comes with some overall benefits in platform experience. Thanks for everything you do to push Bitcoin adoption forward, truly appreciate your support and feedback!
So youāre suggesting we ONLY allow users to login with Nostr? Are you being serious?
Appreciate the feedback! I can agree that itās an added hurdle in the short run but we believe it may be worth it for enabling more recurring contributions. With emails we can reach back out to them with your updates and new related projects - and create more ongoing contributors. As mentioned, we see a huge move away from social media and having user emails, as a platform, is really the only way to reach back to users. Would honestly consider enabling Nostr users to not do so, but Nostr DMs donāt work very well. Hope this clarifies our intent.
