I am trying to grow ecosystem in a former vinyard by first growing trees on a well drained sandy soil in hot, dry summers & cold winters (snow) climate for exactly that reason: cooling down the soil in the summer to be able to build an orchard. I realized after a while the species adapt to the soil producing offsprings that are more resistant & adaptable to that very soil.

What if your neighbors are clones?
