CoW can be disabled through an extended attribute on btrfs for individual folders and volumes. We already do so for journald, and are also doing so going forwards with bitcoin's data volume. We have chosen btrfs over xfs for its improved data integrity and self-healing features

Ultimately this is why we exist, but it will be a while before IoT stuff is "officially" supported
