When trying to use nip07 extension on habla.news, it was a battle for survival. The constant overwrites by the site with dysfunctional HTML that does not work on iOS Safari and deletion of the injected extension code. Not sure what is going on but finally made it work and won the battle 🤣

Speed is not the only thing that matters, it is all about perception. I suggest to take a look at jumble.social and not basic navigation, how loading is done, see how they perform refresh (pull down on notifications does not engage default browser refresh, instead it does the app driven refresh), pending UI is smooth and does not shift layout left or right or up/down, and many more details to make it feel fast and smooth.

Why works now and not before? Cache?

It seems that the common direction (which is wrong) for most clients is to add more bloat and features, instead of doing one thing and do it right. Nostter web is the only client that just works and fast, the rest I tried is a bloated mess with constant delays, bad user feedback (did I press that button, did I?) and I don’t know, just plain confusing as hell, and I am “an experienced nostr user”. Yeah, this is not going well
