I am not overly keen to blame the devs & owners of Coldcard. That's a bit like blaming a politician for not fixing your life. Ultimately, it is us who needs to demand open source and test open source apps. Devs and business owners are just people and even if they don't just succumb to greed they can be pressured/blackmailed/bribed/tricked into all sorts of stuff.

The Coldcard hack is a hit on trust in bitcoin, especially impacting onboarding of new people with more than a few dollars in the bank. It aligns very much with the interests of the Epstein class. If they didn't engineer this one, they will want to do the next. Ledger would be a great target as it is big and similarly has closed source firmware.
