Back then I really liked them too. They were something different, and Brad Roberts’ voice and lyrics were truly unmistakable.
“MMM MMM MMM MMM” by Crash Test Dummies sounds like the soundtrack of a substitute teacher explaining life through emotional damage and cafeteria mystery meat. The band reportedly thought the song was too weird for mainstream radio which, ironically, guaranteed it would become a massive hit in the ‘90s, a decade powered entirely by confusion and questionable haircuts. Brad Roberts’ impossibly deep voice made every lyric sound like ancient wisdom carved into a Canadian tree trunk. Somehow a song about awkward kids, trauma, and humming became globally iconic. Humanity truly peaked when we collectively agreed: “yes, this humming man understands us.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTeg1txDv8w
It’s not always true that giants win. Italian illustrator Cristina Cati, founder of the Bologna-based brand “Modoro,” has won a final court ruling against IKEA after the company used her artwork “Tortellino con ingredienti” inside its Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna, Italy) store without permission. The case began in Christmas 2021, when a follower on Instagram congratulated Cati for what seemed like an international collaboration. In reality, there was no agreement: the artwork had allegedly been reproduced, altered, and displayed without credit or licensing. Years later, the Bologna court ruled in favour of the artist, turning the case into a powerful reminder that creativity and copyright still matter, even against global corporations. #nostr #decentralized #artist #art #blockchain
